Is Donald Trump even trying to be serious anymore, or is he finally ready to announce that his entire campaign is just a piece of performance art?
On Morning Joe, Donald was steered towards the topic of Vladimir Putin and his recent praising of Trump. Trump responded that he “loved” the praise because Putin is the leader of Russia.
Host Joe Scarborough pointed out that Putin also has political opponents and journalists that disagree with him murdered while he invades other countries. Trump’s response was “Well, he’s running his country and at least, he’s a leader – unlike what we have in this country.”
Joe, with a look of mild shock, tried clarifying by repeating his statement that Putin murders journalists that don’t agree with him. Trump responded, “Well, our country does plenty of killing also.”
Trump seemed to want to attempt walking back his comments, once he realized what he said on live TV. He suggested that Scarborough didn’t ask him that question and he instead asked a different question. In the reality the rest of us live in, Joe didn’t ask him any question. He pointed out the fact Trump loves his Putin endorsement when everybody knows Putin is the equivalent of a murderous dictator.
Trump knew exactly what he was talking about. There isn’t a logical transition from “Did you like Putin’s endorsement?” immediately into “Our country does plenty of killing also.” Of course, poll numbers will go up because of this, since in a Republican’s mind Trump is talking about killing “liberally biased” journalists.
