Donald Trump confirmed that he’s full of sh*t.
In an effort to sell his tax reform bill to the American people, Trump has repeatedly claimed that “we’re the highest taxed nation in the world.”
But that’s a total lie and one reporter called him out for it while cameras were rolling.
Scripps News political correspondent Mike Sacks confronted Trump this week and informed him that his claim is “objectively false.”
“With the credibility you need to pass tax reform, why did you say it?” Sacks asked.
Trump responded by tweaking his claim and insisting that both are correct.
“Some people will say it differently,” Trump said. “They’ll say we’re the highest developed nation taxed in the world.”
“Then why are you saying it that way?” Sacks continued.
“Because a lot of people know exactly what I’m talking about,” Trump replied. “But in many cases, they think I’m right when I say the highest. As far as I’m concerned, I think we’re really essentially the highest. But if you would like to add the developed nation, you can say that too. But a lot of people think the way that I’m saying it is exactly correct.”

I asked POTUS today why he keeps saying “We’re the highest taxed nation in the world” when it’s objectively false. Here’s how he answered: pic.twitter.com/2EHa0nbm5p

In fact, according to a study of tax burdens among Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations, the United States tax burden ranks near the bottom, only being higher than Mexico, Korea, and Chile. The average tax burden of the 35 nations is 34 percent. The United States has a 25 percent tax burden.

Now, the United States does have the third highest corporate tax rate in the world, but tax evasion strategies mean most American companies get away with only paying an average of 20 percent, which would put us below the worldwide average of 22 percent.
So when Trump claims that America has the highest tax rates in the world, he’s talking out of his ass. He’s trying to scare Americans into supporting his tax plan, which only benefits the wealthy and does nothing to really help average Americans. We already know that trickle-down is a lie and tax cuts for the wealthy do not lead to job booms.
Donald Trump’s tax plan only hurts our country. It gives the wealthy tax cuts they neither deserve nor need, while robbing the federal treasury of revenues necessary to pay for programs and other things Americans actually need. Trump’s plan would make the deficit and national debt explode, something else that would be put on the backs of Americans who are already struggling. Trump, meanwhile, would be laughing all the way to the bank because his tax plan benefits people like him most of all.
