He was so bad that even the priests booed him.
The Al Smith dinner is an event where the two presidential candidates can showcase their humorous sides, but Donald Trump only showcased an epic fail as he repeatedly crashed and burned in his lame attempts at humor which ultimately ended up being nasty attacks against Hillary Clinton.
Trump began his monologue well at first, showing some self-deprecation and some humor that we’ve rarely seen on the campaign trail because he has been so negative and self-destructive.
The Republican nominee introduced himself by referencing the fact that many politicians know him and have called him their friend until he ran for president.
A special hello to all of you in this room who have known and loved me for many, many years. It’s true. the politicians, they’ve had me to their homes, they’ve introduced me to their children, I’d become their best friends in many instances. They asked for my endorsement and always wanted my money. And even called me really a dear, dear friend. but then, suddenly, decided when I ran for president as a Republican that I’ve always been a no-good, rotten, disgusting scoundrel. And they totally forgot about me. But that’s okay.”
But then he stepped in a huge pile by viciously attacking Hillary Clinton.
“Hillary is so corrupt she got kicked off the Watergate Commission. How corrupt do you have to be to get kicked off the Watergate Commission? Pretty corrupt,” Trump said to boos and calls for him to get off the stage.
Despite the growing chorus of jeers, Trump continued.
Hillary believes that it’s vital to deceive the people by having one public policy and a totally different policy in private. Here she is tonight, in public, pretending not to hate Catholics.”
Just in case you didn’t know, the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner is named after the first Catholic to receive a major party nomination much like Hillary Clinton is the first woman to receive the honor. The dinner is a high profile charity event every year, especially for Catholics. So it’s understandable that the Catholics in attendance, including the priests, did not appreciate Trump’s joke.
Here’s his full monologue via YouTube.
Yeah, that’s pretty bad. And people not only jeered him at the dinner, they did so on Twitter as well.
There’s this truism that conservatives are not as funny, because there’s too much anger in the jokes. Trump just proved it. #AlSmithDinner

In short, Trump was not making playful jokes at Hillary’s expense, he was just being plain mean. He was doing just fine at first but once again he just couldn’t control himself and opened his big mouth.
